Our creative process :

Ikonera is a manufacturer of stone artworks based in the Jura region of Switzerland. Our team of designers, fabricators and stonemasons work with both established and emerging artists to produce museum-quality works of art on a range of scales across Europe.

01 : Design

Your ideas are developed into 3D models by an in-house designer - or an artist of your choice - who works directly with you to turn your vision into reality.

02: Robotic milling

Our CNC robots, programmed by master craftsmen, carry out the first stages of sculpture in a fraction of the time and cost of traditional methods.

03: Hand carving

Our stone sculptors, trained at leading sculpture academies and artists' studios, hand-finish each piece, giving it the same quality as the great works of the past.

Design / Scanning / Modelling

We start with what you have: an object, a scan or simply an idea and turn it into a 3D model.

We scan objects using the most advanced scanners on the market, or simply with a mobile phone.

We create our 3D models on ZBrush and also use Rhino for certain modelling tasks. certain modelling tasks.

Stone sourcing worldwide

We sculpt marble, limestone, granite, sandstone, onyx, calcite and other exceptional stones. We select them directly from quarries around the world.

Robotic milling

We machine stone using 7-axis CNC robots and 5-axis sawing and milling machines. Our highly skilled craftsmen precisely define each tool path and its parameters.

Saws and large diamond discs rough out the main shapes. Next, precision milling cutters, some with tips of up to 2 mm, are used to machine details to within fractions of a millimetre of the final surface.

Hand-finished

Our stonemasons finish each piece by hand - sometimes in just a few hours, sometimes over several months.

They give each work the tool marks, polished surfaces, fine lines and clear undercuts that only the human hand can achieve.

Their tools combine traditional instruments - scissors, rasps, abrasives - with modern tools fitted with specialised bits.

Last stage

After the final finish, our team oversees delivery and installation all over the world. Our creations can be found in galleries, private collections, museums and public spaces.

07 questions
01 How does robotic pruning differ from hand pruning?

Robotic cutting and manual cutting are two complementary approaches, not opposites. The robot performs the roughing and trimming phases with a precision of 0.1 mm, where weeks of manual work would be required. It eliminates fatigue, guarantees perfect repeatability and considerably reduces costs.

This is followed by hand-cutting for detail, surface texture and finish. This combination is at the heart of our approach: the precision of the machine, the soul of the craftsman.

02 How does the sculpture robot work?

IkonEra uses a CNC robot with 7-axis Robot L, one of the most advanced stone-cutting systems in the world. Based on a digital 3D model, the robot generates machining trajectories and carves the stone with a rotating diamond cutter.

  • The 3D model is prepared by our team of digital designers
  • The robot machines the part in successive passes, from coarse to fine
  • Our sculptors take over the finishing touches by hand
  • Each part is checked and validated before delivery
03 How much does a sculpture cost?

The cost varies according to the size, complexity and material chosen. As a guide, our prices start at CHF 2,000 for a simple architectural element (corbel, bracket) and can reach several hundred thousand for monumental pieces.

  • Raven (30 cm) - from CHF 2,000
  • Ionic capital (45 cm) - from CHF 3,000
  • Corinthian capital (90 cm) - from CHF 30 000
  • Relief panel (2.5 m) - from CHF 40,000
  • Obelisk (15 m) - from CHF 750 000

These prices represent reduction from 60 to 70 % compared with traditional manual pruning. Contact us for a personalised quote.

04 Which stones are available?

We work with a wide range of natural stones, selected for their quality, durability and aesthetic appeal:

  • Marble - Carrara white, Marquina black, Bardiglio grey
  • Limestone - Burgundy stone, Comblanchien, Belgian limestone
  • Sandstone - Vosges sandstone, Fontainebleau sandstone
  • Granites - for outdoor rooms exposed to the elements
  • Travertine & Onyx - for special decorative effects

We can also work with a specific stone at your request. Our team will advise you according to your project, exposure and budget.

05 How long does it take to make a sculpture?

Delivery times depend on the complexity and volume of the order. As a general rule :

  • Small parts (bust, corbel, console) - 3 to 6 weeks
  • Medium-sized parts (capital, medallion, relief) - 6 to 14 weeks
  • Large orders (facade, monument, series) - 3 to 12 months

The 3D modelling phase always precedes manufacture and can take from 1 to 4 weeks depending on the complexity of the design. We keep you informed at every stage of the process.

06 How does delivery work?

Each sculpture is individually packed in a bespoke crate designed to protect the piece during transport. We work with transporters who specialise in works of art and heavy materials.

  • Delivery in Switzerland, Europe and abroad
  • Tailor-made packaging with shock and moisture protection
  • On-site installation possible with our technical team
  • Transport insurance included on request

For large architectural elements, we coordinate directly with your architect or contractor for on-site integration.

07 How does payment work? Refunds?

Payment is made in two or three instalments depending on the value of the project:

  • 50 % when the order is placed (validation of the quotation and launch of the 3D modelling)
  • 40 % validation of the 3D model before manufacture
  • 10 % on delivery

We accept bank transfers (CHF, EUR) and card payments on request. Due to the bespoke nature of each order, deposits are non-refundable once production has started. We invite you to carefully validate the 3D model before approving it for production.
